Jutta and I spent Saturday evening in a nice restaurant in Rapperswill, eating loads of pasta followed by a gorgeous tiramisu. Our Sunday morning started with a nice breakfast at 6 a.m. before we left for the race. Our bikes were properly prepared with water bottles; we ourselves slipped into the wetsuits. Ready, set, leap!
Punctually at 9.00 am my age group got into the water. My hands and feet felt ice-cold, my face was freezing. After about 200 m I finally got into my crawling rhythm - the first discipline took me a respectable 32 mins. Way too slow I got out of the wetsuit and onto my bike. I managed to ride easily, still fast. After 02:57 hours I got off the bike: for the first time I beat the 30 km/h average on the course. Yay!
On to the last discipline – running the half marathon. It was a nice run - only the so called “Stairways to Heaven” were hard to take. After another 01:46 hours I reached the finish! What a heavenly experience...
