The first five days of this week's training were significantly influenced by the performance diagnostic test that was scheduled for Friday morning. Tests always put my nerves on edge. I did the same test about a year ago and hoped to see some improvement!
You are not allowed to eat anything before the test, so I was quite hungry when it started at 9 a.m.
Cycling came first. Resistance started with 75 Watt and was increased by 25 Watt every 2nd minute. I started sweating pretty soon, trying to keep a steady pace of 90 rounds per minute. My pulse and my fat burning capabilities were constantly measured.
Running was next. Again, the start was easy enough with 6 km/h. The speed was raised by 1 km/h every 2nd minute. The whole exercise ended with me running 16 km/h.
Overall results showed a 10% improvement for running (long distance race speed should be around 13 km/h) and a 20% improvement for cycling (long distance race performance should be around 240 Watt). I have to say that I am proud of my physical performance improvement!
Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday made me cycle more than 300 km, leaving me totally exhausted for my belated birthday dinner Sunday evening.
